SEIRIN NAGANO

Fall 2019
Collective Artist

Seirin Nagano is a mixed-media artist originally from Tokyo, Japan. After training as an oil painter in Japan, she moved to the U.S., where she earned her MFA in an interdisciplinary art program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She currently lives and works in Charlotte, North Carolina, and teaches Japanese at the Department of Languages and Culture Studies at UNCC.

Seirin's work records the invisible things and processes that make our physical existence possible through an exploration of an invisible transformation of the physical object which takes the form of a conversation between mind and materials. Her works are the result of striving to give flesh to those that don’t have a physical existence in order to realize their invisible presence.
